Conditions for the euro-introduction
Before an European Union member country may introduce the euro as official currency, it must fulfill the 4 European Union convergence criteria as followed:
- the achievement of a high degree of price stability
- the sustainability of the government financial position
- the observance of the normal fluctuation margins provided for by the exchange rate mechanism of the European Monetary System.
- the durability of confergence ... being reflected in long-term interest-rate levels
